Slow News Week and Building a Better X-Ray

Posted by dentalinsider on June 2, 2006

It has been a rather slow couple of weeks as far as news goes.

Patterson Dental (PDCO) released earnings on May 25, 2006. While quarterly profits rose 13%, the company issued a forecast shy of Wall Street expectations and its shares fell nearly 3 percent.

May 20, 2006 was the last day for Patterson Dental to sell Kavo/Gendex products.

Henry Schein (HSIC) also had a rough quarter although, for the full year, Henry Schein forecast earnings per share of $2.08 to $2.14, compared to an analyst consensus estimate of $2.13.

Progeny JB-70 X Ray

What to do get when you take Engineers, Vice Presidents and the CEO of one of the leading companies in dental xray and give them a clean slate to start from?
Progeny Dental’s JB-70….The Next Generation of Dental Imaging has arrived. This xray not only looks good, but offers simple controls, flawless imaging and a very competetive price. ($4500.00 Retail)

JB-70 Specifications:
Tube Potential – 70 kVp
Tube Current – 7 mA
Exposure Time Selections – 50 ms through 1.65 seconds
Cone Length – 8 inches
Warranty – 2 years, limited
Exposure handswitch, 12″ cone, 8″ rectangular cone, Choice of 56″, 66″, 76″ (total reach), two stud mounting plate, metal stud mounting plate

We have about 20 of these units in offices dating back to September 2003. All of the units have worked flawlessly. We did have one unit with a bad board and Progeny overnighted the new board and the unit was back up the next morning.
Intallation is very straight forward and is setup for a single stud mounting, right out of the box. An optional two stud mounting plate($185.00 retail) is available when you’re mounting the unit across two studs, 16 inches on center.
If you’re in the market for a new x ray unit, I suggest you take a look at the Progeny JB-70 or their sister xray unit the Preva DC unit. Either would be a smart choice for your practice. For more information visit their website at
