We have received FDA clearance for the modifications to the QUATTROcare units and spray cans. We are now able to distribute and market the modified unit and begin our retrofit process with doctors who have QUATTROcare units in their offices. Thank you for your support and patience as we developed our corrective actions.
Doctors’ units will be retrofitted by KaVo at no charge by a KaVo trained technician, either in our facility or in their office. We encourage all offices to return the units to us for repair in Lake Zurich so that we can do a more complete overhaul more quickly. Your customers have registered their units with us (via the last communication). We expect to begin retrofitting the units in the next couple of weeks. We have added staff to complete the preregistered units within 4 weeks after we begin. As promised, the units updated in our facility will receive a complete overhaul with a new 12 month warranty, and a handpiece warranty extension from 2 ½ years to 3 years. Each unit will be shipped to the doctor with a single complementary can of spray. We will be working with you to ensure you have inventory of QUATTROcare spray cans prior to returning any updated units to the doctors.
Special Thank You offers will be included in the returned QUATTROcare units to offer special promotions on KaVo products as a measure of appreciation for doctors’ patience during the recall. These offers will be in the form of a coupon book which will offer special incentives on various products. You will receive an advance copy of this promotion and the coupons so that you can share with your customer service and sales teams. These offers will be only available to QUATTROcare owners, and will expire at the end of the year.

It’s been almost a year since Dentsply implemented it’s “Strategic Partnership Agreement” with 28 27 distributors. We at the Dental Insider would like to hear from the former distributors about what the last 10 months have been like without the Dentsply lines. Did you lose sales? If so, what percentage? Were you able to transition customers to competing products? What did your customers think with regards to Dentsply pulling the line from so many dealers? We would like to compile some information and pass it along to the industry. Send an email to dentalinsider {at} gmail.com
It you are currently a Dentsply dealer, how have things been for you the last year? How are you dealing with the weekly end user data reports. Did Dentsply follow through with everything they promised in the partnership agreement?
All identities and personal information will be kept strictly confidential. We would like to post the results sometime in September.
We need YOUR help!
Thank You,
DI and Associate Q

Where there is gold, there is greed. Dental laboratories have long fought to keep a watchful eye on the employees that do the casting and handle the alloy. When you figure an ounce of Gold is running over $660, there is bound to be some technicians that don’t do the right thing. But I found this most recent story extremely interesting for a couple reasons. First, this is a Dental Services Group Laboratory and is owned by the Sentage Corporation. The Sentage Corporation owns about 26 laboratories, and some of them are the largest labs in their area. You can check out their website at www.dentalservices.net and see the labs they own.
The second reason I found this interesting is because it has been happening for over 15 years, all the way back to 1991! Plus, if you read the entire article you will note that the company was not even the one who finally caught on, it was the Sylvania Police Department who notified them of an ongoing investigation. So that makes the lab managers really stupid or it makes it really easy to steal scrap from a lab this size. If I were to guess I would say it is a mixture of both, and probably less stupidity on the part of management and more likely a blind trust of an employee who has worked for you for so many years. I don’t really know, but you can all read the story and be the judge.
