Dental Trade Alliance Annual Meeting Kicks Off

Posted by dentalinsider on July 25, 2007

The DTA’s (Dental Trade Alliance) annual meeting is going on now through Friday at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa in Farmington, PA. This is the annual meeting where all of the “Over-weight, Under-sexed, Middle-aged” men that run the dental industry get together to pat themselves on the backs and talk about what they have done over the last 12 months. Instead, they should be talking about the future of this industry and how to stabilize it and make it better. Gentlemen, and ladies….put your ego’s aside and get this industry back on track. If you haven’t already noticed…The Chinese are Coming!

If anyone attending the annual meeting would care to share their insights or observations with our readers, we would be happy to post them. Send them to dentalinsider{at}gmail(.)com

Agency to Investigate Dentsply Complaint

Posted by dentalinsider on July 19, 2007

Trade Agency to Investigate Dentsply Patent Complaint Against U.S., French Companies WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal agency said Thursday it will investigate a complaint by dental products maker Dentsply International Inc. that two companies, one based in the United States and the other in France, are violating two of its patents on instruments used in root canals.

The U.S. International Trade Commission said Dentsply has requested it bar the import and sale of the instruments.

The ITC is an independent federal agency that performs economic research on trade agreements and investigates unfair trade practices. The agency can bar imports of products that infringe U.S. patents and trademarks.

Dentsply has accused Albuquerque, N.M.-based Guidance Endodontics LLC and a French company, Micro Mega International Manufacturers, of infringing on its patents.

A Guidance employee reached by phone said the company’s spokesman was unavailable for comment.

We received a letter from MCC’s president Wayne Lebeau regarding the relationship between MCC and the now defunct LSM dental. He discusses the past relationship with LSM and what the future holds for the company. You can download and read a copy of the letter here.

Now if someone can tell us what will happen to all of the LSM equipment customers that were sold equipment with a warranty and now there is no one to honor that warranty.

First Impressions

Posted by dentalinsider on July 10, 2007

First Impressions is a new magazine geared towards dental sales professionals.

march2007cvrsm.jpg
First Impressions is a publication whose sole focus is to make dental distribution sales reps better by providing an informational and educational link between dental manufacturers and the distribution channel responsible for selling those products and services to the profession.

Simply put, First Impressions’ objective is to provide resources that enable manufacturers to reach and teach the sales community so that they can become more valuable to their mutual customer-the dentist. Our focus is on the sales people. We will provide information that allows sales reps to operate at a higher level and enable them to better respond to the needs of their customers. When a sales person knows more about his customers, market trends and products, they can be more productive in the field.

This publication will focus on issues that reps themselves tell us are important to them…what keeps them and their customers up at night. Our experience tells us that reps want and need more resources that position themselves to be more valuable to their customers.

First Impressions’ mission is to be the place that reps look to for product information, industry analysis, market trends, and a real-world approach to selling techniques.

I have had a chance to read through their first two issues and they are packed with lots of useful information. Best of all…First Impressions is free to dental sales professionals. Click here to sign up for your free subscription.
